Over 1000 Guests came through the doors of the Hartford ArtSpace Gallery and were amazed at the experience before them. To extend this experience, I offer to you this online gallery that will give you a chance to meet the artists and get a look at their work for the Exhibit.

If you have any questions, or are interested in participating in next year's, 2011 Steampunk Bizarre, please contact Dr. Grymm directly.

Thank you for making the 2010 Steampunk Bizarre such a huge success!

- Dr. Grymm:

Curator and Participating Artist

______________________________________________________________________

"Steampunk: The scholar’s Science Fiction."
Born from the imaginations of H.G. Welles, Mary Shelley, Jules Verne, Nikola Tesla and several others, Steampunk offers a melding of late 1800's aesthetic with scientific discovery and other-worldly technology. Though Steampunk reached a tipping point recently, it is not just a current trend. The Steampunk aesthetic has been woven through our media and consciousness for more than a century in books, film, music, fashion, and art.

Today, the Steampunk movement is alive with artistic creation and ideas to bring “a world that never happened” into reality. Steampunk artists create an alternate world not bound by the modern millennial conventions of physics, science and convenience technology. Steampunk is a chance for artists to build with their hands and their imaginations, just as the great innovators of the Industrial Revolution did.

Hosted by Dr. Grymm Laboratories, this second annual exhibit will harness just a tiny cog in the great machine that is Steampunk. The Exhibit will be alive with sights and sounds of ingenious and strange contraptions set in a themed atmosphere. The mission of this show is to bring together 23 local and international artists to share their vision of what Steampunk is and will be. Half of the Artists are Steampunk by trade, the other half are professional artists who have never tried their hand at Steampunk art before. Dr. Grymm's "Experiment" challenges you to tell the difference!

MEET THE ARTISTS AND THEIR WORK

The following are the participating Artists and the Artwork that was on display at the 2010 Steampunk Bizarre.

The art piece titles will take you to an image of the work. A graduate of California Institute of the Arts with a BFA in Film and Animation, Marsocci's mix of Victorian elegance and science fiction styling through sculpture and design, gave him the natural advantage to design for the growing popularity of the world of Steampunk.

Dr. Grymm Laboratories currently provides custom designs of props and creatures for film production companies across the US. Dr. Grymm's custom contraptions and sculptures have been seen in Steampunk exhibits and Steampunk publications around the world, including the Steampunk Exhibit held at the Oxford University History of Science Museum in 2010.

In the Summer of 2009 Mr. Marsocci hosted the first annual Steampunk Bizarre in Middletown, CT, which was an exhibit featuring the works of Dr. Grymm and some amazing local Steampunk artists. The show featured two of Dr. Grymm's interactive "Brain Storm" Machines, and his world famous Steampunk "Eye Pod" Victrola. The popularity of the exhibit prompted the Second Annual Steampunk Bizarre, which has grown to showcase 23 international artists which was held in Hartford, CT July 2010. Currently Dr. Grymm is authoring the upcoming book "1000: A Steampunk Collection" with Rockport Publishers.

Samples of his work can be found at: www.DrGrymmLaboratories.net

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; As a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts, Adams has always found vast enjoyment in audio work, and especially in the exciting sounds of Theme Park audio, of which he has a vast collection. At a very young age, Young Mr. Adams was making dorky radio shows on his parent's new fangled cassette recorder and things just went downhill from there.

Mr. Adams was apart of H L. A longtime fan of Steampunk Mr. Adams has worked with Dr. Grymm many times in the past, most notably the Steampunk Bizarre show in 2009 - when Dr. Grymm can find him, that is, for Mr. Adams (an enthusiast of Cryptozoological game hunting) is sometimes hard to reach.

Mr. Adams dedicates his work for Dr. Grymm's show to his Father, who is alive and well, and to his Mother, who isn't....

Mr. Adams resides in Van Nuys, CA and is the Sole Proprietor of Mark Adams Sound Design.

Samples of his work can be found at: www.myspace.com/markadamssounddesign

E-Mail: tl2055@hotmail.com

Pieces:

1. (SOUND CLIP COMING SOON) - Room Ambiance of Dr. Grymm’s Laboratory

2. He conquers worlds throughout the multi-dimensions enforcing imagination and creative thinking upon the Dull. He fights a war against the oppression of the unreal. The lord Emperor will die countless times but always return. He travels through time and dimensions in the multi-verse. He is there to just observe, and wait. He protects his timelines from deviating the path of his choosing. He looses track of where or when he is, can suffer from delusions or flashes back and forward, based off of catching up with traveling. He is aware of the different parallels of himself. At one point they were once part of a whole but now are split. Some wish to kill all versions of himself. Others have become one with the Dull. He is only one entity that as the result of certain occurrences have changed his personality through his immortal timeline. The Lord Emperor despises pirates, vampires, doesn’t trust fairy folk, but will allow certain members of those races citizenship for the glory of the Empire.

The Gauntlet is a part of him with his malnourished arm inside hooked in, being constantly scratched by gears. It is a manifestation of the will of the Imperial Citizenry. For some reason the gauntlet changes its appearance depending on the plane of existence the Emperor is on. Several incarnations of the gauntlet can emit a beam of different sources dependent on which gauntlet and which Emperor wields it. The Gauntlets originate from bio mechanical clockwork experimentation by his creator. It was forged in the heart of a sun and tempered with tears from long forgotten gods. It has its own sentience, at least that is what the Emperor believes. He himself replaced his arm with his own creation. The Emperor has had many gauntlet apparatus throughout the timeline.

The Emperor prefers to work in sculpture more than any other medium, to use his hands to build and create. He feels as if the power of creation was his to command, that once he starts working "something happens". The Emperor sees his creations as more "real" in a three dimensional space, without the limitation of working in only two dimensions. He will take full advantage of as many dimensions possible, currently his goal is to be able to use all five dimensions. He takes forgotten objects of peoples lives and shapes them into something imaginative and creative, almost like working a puzzle with pieces of souls. Each piece has a story that it can tell. Even though whether or not a piece already has a meaning or story behind it, the work itself can tell a different story to each viewer. His actors are handmade and play their parts on the stages built around them. The creations usually start with one small idea or object. It's then built around that object or idea. With some imagination, it's formed into a work that speaks on its own. The Emperor tends to get a bit morbid with his work. His usual outward mood is cheerful, as can be expected of a sovereign, and uses his gift to express his darker self.

The Emperor hopes you enjoy his vision.

Samples of his work can be found at: http://redforkempire.com/
E-Mail: redforkempire@gmail.com

Pieces:

1. Tortured Pixie - $200

2. Imperial Sentinel - $220

3. Afterworld Entity Detector - $250

4. SOLD - Clockwork Angel - $250

5. Cthulhu Idol - $200

6. Dimensional Box - $250

7. Acetabulus Paphies - $250

8. Economical Hand Prototype - $250

9. SOLD - Imperial Flintlock Essence Extirpator - $110

10. Imperial Thrall Goggles - $60

11. Imperial Laboratory Goggles - $60

_________________________________________________________

Chris Coonce-Ewing - CT

Steam Weaponsmith

Christopher Coonce-Ewing is an interesting artist who’s background ironically has little to do with “art”. In the past, Christopher has worked in many different job fields where he was able to accomplish many things such as slinging burgers, selling granite countertops, and even making half-gallons of ice cream in a factory. Yet, it is his diverse background and most recent change of jobs from an Internet Wonderboy to a caring and giving seventh grade History Teacher that has made him who he is today. Through using his various skills like creating fascinating Halloween props , and creative set design elements, Christopher uses his skills and talent as a muse to help inspire and create his innovative Steampunk Art Work.

Coonce-Ewing states, “While I appreciate the Steampunk creations and artwork of other artists, I feel that my direction and overall outlet focuses on the “creation” of weaponry. For this reason, Enfield Steam Weapons is the name that not only represents my pieces, but also cultivates my art. Using this form of art allows me to represent my childhood town as well as the founding land of Enfield, England which is known best for creating rifles during the Victorian Era. Blending interesting items with old world techniques helps me to transform these individual pieces into great pieces of art. Although my pieces are created from metal, glass, and other formidable odds and ends, I find that I am highly motivated, and focused on all of the creations you see before you. Enjoy!”

Samples of his work can be found at: http://enfieldsteamweapons.blogspot.com/
E-Mail: Coonceewing@gmail.com

Pieces:

1. The Abrogator - $180 (Metal and Glass)

The Abrogator harnesses the power of steam along with the ideas of Tesla and Marconi to create a weapon which emits "radio waves", invisible oscillating rays of energy, which will disorient and eventually remove any problem you may encounter.

It is designed to be used for short periods of time with access to a nearby steam source for recharging the weapon. The steam recharge port is at the front of The Abrogator. The steam travels back into the central chamber to power a dynamo creating the electricity needed to emit the radio waves out of the radial antennae.

As the steam cools it drops into the fresnel chamber and travels through the condensor coil. A thermal siphon effect takes place, with the cool vapor helping to reduce the heat output during use.

The weapon is discharged using the internal static electricity of the wielder. By placing only two fingers on the stock the weapon will prime itself. Upon all four fingers being placed upon it, the weapon will discharge.

2. The Regulator - $180 (Metal, Glass, Resin)

The Regulator has a collapsing stock that also provides a hook to attach it to a belt loop as it is too large for a holster.

Portable cartridges power The Regulator. The steam pressure flows through the central passage into the resonating dome in the rear of the weapon. The energy is then channeled down a central tube through the topaz chamber and is then focused through the crystal at the muzzle of the weapon.

While some weapons rely on a trigger, the valve actuator allows the wielder to better control the strength and duration of the energy beam.

The energy beam produced has no effect upon non-organic materials, but will make short work of those objects that are, or once were living.

3. The Rectifier - $200 (Metal, Glass, Resin)

The Rectifier uses a large portable steam tank to power the internal resonating chamber, which then focuses the harmonic frequencies of the topaz chamber to create a beam of charged light from the front of the weapon.

The copper coil feeds the steam into the resonating chamber while the two side copper tubes provide additional energy for the beam.

The discharge is triggered by the large button on the rear of the weapon, while the dial to the right of the trigger can be used to adjust the severity of the discharge.

The rear cage of the weapon assembly acts as a heat dispersal area to avoid the weapon over heating from the discharge of steam and excitation of the topaz crystal.

4. The Retaliator - $210 (Metal, Glass, Resin, Leather)

The Retaliator is the largest of the weapons in this collection. The dual steam tanks are joined to provide larger portable steam array. The Retaliator could also be used with a stationary steam source using a longer steam delivery tube, making an excellent deck weapon on an airship.

The Retaliator, much like The Abrogator, harnesses the power of steam along with the ideas of Tesla and Marconi to create a weapon which emits "radio waves", invisible oscillating rays of energy, which will disorient and eventually remove any problem you may encounter.

The Retaliator uses the radio waves to then create an inner energy vortex which travels from the forward array through the dispersal tube, which draws air in through the holes to assist in the vortex generation.

______________________________________________________

Noel Coonce-Ewing - CT

Steampunk Naturalist

I wanted to create an installation piece of what a Steampunk Scientist might be like. A traveling writing desk and a few specimens captured by her. Perhaps she would be traveling via airship like Darwin did on the Beagle.

As a child, I spent time with my grandfather who was a biology teacher, author, radio personality and a Naturalist. I helped him count Plovers, a small shore bird, and trailed behind him through bogs, woods, beaches and the salt marshes of coastal Nova Scotia.

I love the way Steampunk takes technology and spins it off with it's gears and wheels. I like to apply that same thought process to Nature and to fairy magic. What if Nature went off into a different direction? What if a one took the camouflage ability of a Cuttlefish and applied it to a Zeppelin? Could you have an air ship with a cloaking device?

Or what if someone made a lamp with the luminescent jelly-like orbs of some sea creature from far below?

What if fairies did not leave this world as legend goes? What if they adapted and evolved with the industrial age? Like the little creature with the gas mask appearance or the little fly with gear like eyes. Maybe these are the imaginings of a Steampunk crypto-biologist.?

Samples of her work can be found at: http://www.noelscryptolab.blogspot.com/

E-Mail: ngcoonceewing@gmail.com

Pieces:

1. Steam-faery - This creature looks scary, but is harmless. Young. Prescient and headstrong, doubtlessly full of character flaws and mechanical defects. He has been making art for the commercial world for a short time, and has been making art for his personal world for a longer time. Both are reflections of the other.

His informal introduction to the Steampunk genre has been through the consumption of analog (re: literature and graphics) and digital (re: movies) media. His formal introduction arrived as a strange passport, holo-hand stamped by one Dr. Grymm, via mechano-dirigible hydraulic monkey brain compubot. Sensing something "new and strange" might be happening before his path, James accepted the invitation to go a little further into the world of DIY Sci-Fi pioneers. "The occult is most welcoming," he murmurs from a subterranean, techno-monastary.

Samples of his work can be found at: http://notebookpapercomics.blogspot.com/

 E-Mail: braykfast@gmail.com

Pieces:

1. Harmonic Lux Diffractor (Collaboration with Dr. Grymm): $2500.00

2. Treacherous Ink!: (Medium: Acrylic Ink): $230.00

3. And They Called Me Mad!: (Medium: Acrylic Ink): $125.00

4. With These Hands: (Medium: Enamel): $125.00

_________________________________________________

Joseph Dinunzio Jr. - CT

Illustrator/Sculptor

I use fantasy illustration and fine art techniques to create surrealist imagery that depicts the chaos that is my imagination. (Deskey was the Art Deco master and creator of Radio City Music Hall)

Since 1990, Mr Donovan has specialized in hand crafting custom lighting and illuminated sculptural objects for his company, Donovan Design. Recently, Mr. Donovan organized, developed and curated the world’s first exhibitions of Steampunk Art and Design. The first exhibition was held in August, 2008, at the Hamptons Antique Galleries in Bridgehampton, New York. The second exhibition was held at the Museum of the History of Science at the University of Oxford, UK. This exhibition featured 18 artists from 8 countries and ran from October, 2009 through February, 2010. It proved to be the most popular and widely attended show that the Museum had ever mounted. While at Oxford University, Mr. Donovan gave lectures on the genre of Steampunk art, it’s origins and practitioners.

Samples of his work can be found at: http://donovandesign.blogspot.com/

E-Mail: donovandesign@optonline.net

Pieces:

1. “The Ferryman” reading + research lamp - $8500

Captain Nemo had a massive personal library onboard his vessel, “The Nautilus.” Among his extensive collection of rare Persian manuscripts, antique navigational charts, and volumes of ancient Greek and Roman literature, Nemo also possessed rare specimens of the natural world that predated Sir Charles Darwin. What the good Captain didn’t possess was a proper reading lamp.

A ‘must’ for perusing ancient tomes and cataloging unique new species of critters. This device features two main lamps in the front. On the left: a high intensity incandescent bulb. On the right: an ultra violet LED bulb. The combination of these two bulbs provides accurate colour rendition. The UV lamp is also quite useful when viewing natural specimens that need to fluoresce. The Book Rest tilts back to 50B, 32B and 25B and features an 8.5" x 11" 2X Sheet Magnifier. All components are fully adjustable. Projecting from the back is an “Assistant Researcher” Lamp that also holds a 5" diameter, 2.5x, hand-held magnifying lens. Black and antique brass . Solid Brass and Mahogany, 32" tall. One of Kind. Other times I look at objects and envision what else they can be. Whether it's an old tattered book, barbed wire, or rusted nozzles which served a purpose in the past and now are left as useless in another's eyes, I find a new purpose for them, a new story.

Inhabited by a collection of antiques, I saw beauty behind fragments left behind by once utilized objects. The objects in their natural form are a work of art in themselves. If I can find a separate purpose, then another beauty can be brought to the surface that was hidden within. They are unique, phenomenal pieces, and I enjoy finding ways to bring them altogether into one, to make a tangible story.

The simpler the sculpture, the harder it is to create. It takes more craftsmanship to make it look natural. I love the search, to sit and connect individual parts, repositioning each one until they achieve a natural, effortless union. The form, shape, color, and texture it owns, is what brings my ideas to life. I find pure enjoyment in pulling the sculptures right out of the pieces themselves, like they were meant to be there, with just a little bend and twist.

Samples of his work can be found at: http://www.silasfinch.com/

E-Mail: stickbucket@yahoo.com

Pieces:

1. Skylark Peddle Car Assemblage - $3000

2. CFD – Peddle Car Assemblage – $3000

3. Flintlock - $3000

4. Duality Gauge – Not For Sale

5. Mechanical Arm -$2500

6. Mask - $500

7. Book Stilts – $5000

8. Traveling Man Armor & Sword - $5000

____________________________________________________

Kiara Leistikow - CA

Born in November, 1971, Kiara Leistikow is the youngest member of the Leistikow clan, a roving gang of crazy artists originally based in San Pedro, Ca. After realizing at young age, that her stature wasn’t ideal for her dream to grow up to be a T-rex like her hero, Godzilla, she chose to become an artist. In her early years, she had a hard time deciding between drawing pretty black horses, jack o’ lanterns, or great white sharks eating divers. 30 years or so later, it’s still hard for her to decide.

Her greatest influences include: N.C. Wyeth, Frank Frazetta, Bernie Wrightson, John Singer Sargent, Edgar Allan Poe, H.P.Lovecraft and Stephen King to name a few. She’s spent years studying these artists and more to refine her skills in painting, drawing, sculpting and writing. Her beloved husband James Muscarello, whom she met at CalArts, can occasionally coax her to come out of their dwelling in Lomita, CA with the promise of a good horror movie, or a strip of bacon. They live there with one bunny and two cats, along with Michael Meyers and Mrs. Bates(who summer in their studio closet and spend Halloween in their windows). Kiara is often mistaken for a vampire due to very pale skin, but don’t ask her if she sparkles in the sun, or she might kick you with her ChuckTaylors.

Samples of her work can be found at: http://artofkleistikow.blogspot.com/

E-Mail: kleistikow@hotmail.com

Pieces:

1. Recovered Zaharia Journal Entry/Arawan illustration -$250

2. Letter from Dr. Whithersby – Not for Sale

3. Last Effects of Lord Arawan - $250

4. Fang Extractor - $450

5. Remainder of Inhibitor Collar Used By Lord Arawan - $400

____________________________________________________

Jason May - RI

The artist behind the horror graphic novel Catching Lucifer’s Lunch and cocreator of the webcomics Deviant Society and Zennon3. Alongside his father, Dr. Grymm, his work as an apprentice is invaluable as he disassembles found objects and prepares them for categorizing. Scavenging antique shops and old wreckage has become second nature to this prodigy.

At a very young age, James was fascinated by the workings of old Steam locomotives, and has had a desire to learn more about them ever since. By getting his hands on as many books about the subject as he can, his knowledge of steam powered contraptions reaches far beyond that of the average Steampunk Enthusiast.

This is the second year James has participated in the Steampunk Bizarre Exhibit. His entry for this year, Grymm-Bot Jr. or the A.R.V.I.N. True to form we are sellers of our craft, other oddities, a selection of elixirs and potions as well as professional marketing literature if that sort of thing tickles your fancy.

What has attracted us most to Steampunk is the potential for great story telling. To us it can best be described as the nexus where Victorian chic meets science fiction cool – A blending of materials from The Industrial Revolution with the wonderment and imagination of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells.

As a creative dynamic design duo we often blend our skills and varying mediums of imagery such as illustration, photography and video – which makes this evolving art genre a natural fit for our company. With this exhibit we wanted to capture the flavor, characters and setting of a Steampunk community and give it Hollywood flare.

Tim’s Role:

From the outset the biggest challenge for our team was the “setting” of the Art – which in fact constitutes an entire art form in itself. Tim served as our creative director of materials and construction to capture the Steampunk essence in the framing of the prints.

Mike’s Role:

Since the main goal of the project was to create an aura of cinematic excitement, we wanted to capture images that gave action, detail and plotlines to our movie posters. Mike was the lead photographer and also the director of printed design and layout.

Samples of their work can be found at: www.ajarcommunications.com

E-Mail: Tim@ajarcommunications.com or mike@ajarcommunications.com

Pieces:

1. “Rise of Icarus”: Poster and Steampunk stand - $3000

2. Steampunk Coat Rack - $1000

3. “Prediction – Weather or Naught”: Poster and Steampunk stand - $3000

4. “Steam Driven”: Poster and Steampunk stand - $3000

(Prints Also Available)

________________________________________________

James Muscarello - CA

Sculptor/Illustrator/Toy Maker

James Muscarello (illustrator) Born in Chicago in 1970, James had a love for illustration and sculpting at a young age. He spent most of his free time with his trusty Crayola crayons, coloring in coloring books and drawing his favorite super-heroes. On thru his high school years, James excelled in the visual arts.

His passion for movies and drawing led him to the character-animation department at California Institute of the Arts, which he attended from 1990 to 1993. At the time, James was interested in the art of storyboarding for films and theme park attractions. He landed several freelance jobs at various companies including Warner Bros. enterprises, but found that freelance work was scarce and largely unsatisfying. James decided to recharge his creative batteries and fine tune his skills as an artist. He attended life drawing and painting classes at El Camino College.

James can be contacted at: muscarelloart@hotmail.com

E-Mail: muscarelloart@hotmail.com

Pieces:

1. The John Henry Device (Collaboration with Dr. Grymm) Human sculptures.

2. The White Chapel Gentlemen (Steampunk Great Train Robbery figures) – Not For Sale

3. Edgar Allan Poe Sculpture - $200

4. Captain Nemo Bust – Not For Sale

_____________________________________________________

James Richardson-Brown - UK

Sculptor/Author

Born in London in 1982 and working in the UK, James Richardson-Brown is a published author, Steampunk commentator and enthusiast, and 3-D visual artist.

His first interest in Steampunk stemmed from the 1990 film ‘Back to the Future 3’ and also from the tales of Jules Verne and H. G. Wells. Pursuing a career in IT originally, he took up writing and 3-D visual art in a style then known to very few people, Steampunk. James has written several articles on Steampunk (including its aesthetics and sub-culture) and his views on the possible advantages it could have for the modern world have appeared in numerous magazines and places on the internet. His 3-D Visual art has appeared in such places as the BBC, Sky Television, Oxford University's Museum of the history of science and wired.com.

James’s art is inspired by a Victorian world that never existed and the possibilities that changes in our history could bring about. The Steampunk genre is his main interest, allowing him to mix his love of science, history and adventure.

Samples of his work can be found at: http://www.sydeiancreations.com/
E-Mail: sydeian@googlemail.com

Pieces:

1. K-1889 – Steampunk Dog from Dr. Who – Not for Sale

2. Steampunk USB Device - $80

3. Steampunk Lie Detector – Not for Sale

__________________________________________________

Michael Salerno - NY

Craftsman/Adventurer

Michael Salerno (Mahopac, NY) is an exhausted father of triplets, home-brewer, BBQ enthusiast, avid reader, home chef and gardener. A fan of all things old and mechanical since boyhood, he began crafting his own mechanical toys at the age of 8. Today he works as an IT manager. His Steampunk alter-ego however, Professor Angelus P. Fumolatro, is a 19th century professor of engineering, inventor, explorer, culinarian and a student of all sciences. It is through Fumolatro he draws his inspiration for his Steampunk creations.

Working largely with found objects, recycled and traditional materials like wood, fabrics, brass, iron copper and tin he crafts items with two simple rules: 1) Everything Must Work and 2) Anything Worth Doing Is Worth Overdoing. All his items are fully functional. Be it a 5 wheeled bicycle or a musical amplifier or an air-powered defensive weapon, they are all crafted with the 19th century designer's love for ornamentation and the inventor's drive for functionality.

"I want my Steampunk projects" he says "to be a reflection of the roots of the word itself. 'Steam' as in the materials and aesthetics of the steam era (most of the 19th century) and 'Punk' as in a movement rooted in rebelling against the established order. Modern methods of mass production with cheap materials drip with a dulling sameness. The art and craftsmanship of the 1800s proved that even simplest and most utilitarian items can be beautiful. Steampunk is reawakening the idea that form need not follow function and that anything with which we live and work should be a visually exciting as it is useful."

Samples of his work can be found at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tripletlads/sets/

E-Mail: professor_fumolatro@me.com

Pieces:

1. The Demi-Spherical, Charcoal Fueled Radia-vectine Grill Roaster - NOT FOR SALE

2. The Sonic Disorienter - $500 (VIDEO CLIP)

3. The Pentacycle – NOT FOR SALE

4. The Transportable Audionic Amplificator - $300

5. The Self-Powered Mini Audionic Amplificator - $200

_______________________________________________

Carrie Swider - CT

Sculptor

My recent work has been mostly sculptural explorations of our connection to nature and forms found in the growth of plant life. Participating in this Steampunk Exhibit has pushed my work in a new direction, inspiring me to look for the connection between the organic and the mechanical. All of the works on display are mixed media which incorporate mechanical elements in contrast to the organic forms and most are “wearable” art pieces.

Samples of her work can be found at: http://onoclea.blogspot.com/
E-Mail: cj.swider@gmail.com

Pieces:

1. “Born From the Machine” - $500

2. Mme. Scrivener’s creations have been hailed as imaginative oddities, which masterfully epitomize the diverse landscape of steampunk design.

After attending two art colleges to study textiles, jewelry design and jewelry production, Mme. Scrivener’s work became inspired by the shadowy side of Victorian England. Rusty things get her absolutely Steamy. Lovely wind up clocks stop their ticking as she passes (and pocket watches have been known to actually flee in terror) in the hopes that she will not notice them and then cannibalize them for parts.

As her creator persona, Professor Maelstromme, she crafts items in her laboratory which will bring to mind romance by gaslight, arcane science, the steam age, carnival sideshow curios and aged materials from the vaults of Victorian England.

Samples of her work can be found at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/profmaelstromme
E-Mail: amanda.scrivener@hotmail.co.uk

Pieces:

1. Professor Maelstromme’s Binocular Necklace – Not for Sale
When you're on Safari, don't leave your tent without this ornate Binocular Necklace! I am currently attending the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula, MT to better enhance my knowledge and technique. The majority of my portfolio is made up of travel and landscape photography, however, as the range and familiarity with my camera grows, so does my aesthetic. I have been tinkering around with macro a bit, specifically shooting the beauty which lies in the most unlikely of places. When Dr. Gymm invited me to enter the world of steam punk, I was both intrigued and excited. It allowed an outlet for my draw towards rusty and worn out machines.

Samples of her work can be found at: http://trancetraveler.blogspot.com/
E-Mail: mdw842003@yahoo.com

Pieces:

1. The Blueprint Machine: (Collaboration with James Day) $375.00

(Prints Available)

___________________________________________________

Rob LeBlanc - CT

Assemblage Artist

LeBlanc works, resemble ominous alien machines from science fiction movies, are featured in the school's science library. They tower over visitors, who can sit inside and are sometimes startled to find the machines are responding to their movements.

Time. What's the goal in all of this?

Art, LeBlanc says, is one way of making life meaningful. He is the living epitome of another insistence of author Robbins that "The function of the artist is provide what life does not."

But LeBlanc laughs at the very concept of a goal or reason, his eyes twinkling. "The answer is, we don't have to have an answer! We all know where we're going to end up, right?" he shrugs. "The journey there is the answer, and I'm having one helluva trip."

Samples of his work can be found at: http://www.wesleyan.edu/av/gronican.htm
E-mail: rwhite@wesleyan.edu

Pieces:

1. “Andromeda #1, #2 and #3” - $2100

2. “Electro-plane” - $2000

3. “Cellars of Cosmic Manipulation” -$2000

_______________________________________________

Thomas Willeford - PA

AKA - Lord Featherstone
Brute Force Studios - Sculptor

With degrees in Physics, History, and Art, it was perhaps inevitable that Mr.Willeford would be a Steampunk enthusiast. His work attempts to blur then precarious line between Art and Engineering. Back then, the illusion of life was merely an idea but from his earliest childhood he was determined to make it as real as possible.

The long road to his CalArts BFA was filled with dabblings in all sorts of other artistic and historical interests. The word Steampunk hadn't been coined yet, but the idea behind it was something that Steve found extremely compelling and the Harper Goff design of Nemo's Nautilus remains one of his favorites. But there was one passion that kept coming back time and time again; the notion of making moving pictures for a living. More specifically, making visual effects for moving pictures and following in the footsteps of other early cinemagicians like Méliès, McCay, Harryhausen and Pal was his lifelong dream.

Ironically, Steve's dream was achieved by being one of the first student artists hired in the competitive CGI market, as up until that time the studios only hired people with computer science backgrounds.

That was almost twenty years ago. Now, with a supportive wife, a darling son and friends beyond measure, Steve has decided to make his own silent moving picture in a Steampunk style. Armed with the knowledge that it takes just as much work to make a bad film as it does to make a good one, his one hope is that "Adventures in Science" doesn't suck.
Samples of his work can be found at: http://adventuresinsciencefilm.blogspot.com/

E-Mail: spadoinkle@sbcglobal.net

Pieces:

1. Prop Sunken ships for underwater scene in “Adventures in Science!” Film

2. Re-Breathing Unit – Prop for “Adventures in Science!” Film

3. Hypatia Advertisement Poster – for “Adventures in Science!” Film – Framed 11X17" (Prints available) Photoshop $200

4.
